• Simon is a world class masseuse

    Review of Frenchy Spa

    Reviewed September 18, 2018

The word masseuse really does not even begin to cover the breadth and depth of SImon’s knowledge. You can instantly tell that his technique is unlike anyone else’s. He was trained in Europe, where massage is part of overall wellness. He knows how to apply deep slow pressure to release the maximum amount of toxins from the body. He also understands in great detail the skeletal structure, muscle tissue, injuries, even pregnancy massage. He has the expertise of a chiropractor, fitness trainer, medical assistant and masseuse all rolled into one. I’ve been seeing him for years and during that time he’s hardly ever given me the same massage twice. He tailors each massage to exactly what my body needs, whether I’m fatigued, have a yoga injury or lower back pain. He is upbeat, positive, extremely professional and very thorough in addressing your requests. I always leave feeling 5 years younger and the benefits continue for days. He is a vital part of my regular self-care regimen and I recommend him to anyone who wants a massage that is truly customized to their body’s needs.thumbnailcropped-IMG_0602-1.png

Simon, what can I say except you are the most talented massage therapist ever! With such a warm and friendly demeanor you’ll immediately feel comfortable and relaxed. Then the real work begins! He’s wonderful at reading what the body needs and provides a true therapeutic massage. Stretching muscles you didn’t even know where there, tension relief, and helping overall blood circulation. I have knots in my back that I thought would never go away. Cue Simon! I don’t think I have ever felt so rejuvenated. Go see Simon, you won regret it!

I am seconds out from walking out the door of Frenchy Spa frantically writing this review because IT CAN’T BE CONTAINED.

    The Massage:
I went in today with some post-Bootcamp back soreness, but I didn’t even mention it to Simon. He found it nonetheless, and a 60 minute hot stone massage later, I feel like I can fly.

Simon was firm, communicative, professional, and most of all, skilled. I felt comfortable asking for more or less pressure (thought I didn’t have to). Every movement was deliberate, assured, and effective. I get massages really often and have become a connoisseur of trying everything once. I’ve already bought two more massages with Simon.

    The Facility:
Frenchy Spa is located within Atelier Emmanuel, and both are very hygienic, nice smelling, and upscale but unfussy.

    The Price:
    Was RIGHT

I’ve never been more excited to review someone, Simon is a gifted (and strong!) massage therapist.  I am a hair stylist with enough tension to alarm loved ones who dare try to give me relief with casual massage.  He very gracefully and I suspect carefully, worked out my tired and twisted body.  He  asked me what pressure I was comfortable with and having a few massages under my belt that had left me wanting more in the way of deep tissue, I  told him I liked strong pressure to really break up my rock like tension.  He delivered!  I came in with knots that hadn’t been addressed in ages and left relaxed, a little sore but most importantly,  feeling as if I truly would have relief.  Over the following weeks I was feeling better than I had in months and it was even mentioned to me that I was standing taller.

I cannot recommend Simon enough!  He’s made my job much easier.

I flew from LA to SF to visit one of my friends for the weekend. My neck and spine was stiff because of the uncomfortable seats on the plane and from overall stress. Thankfully, I found Simon, who listened to my needs. He was very professional and I felt really comfortable for the entire 60 minutes. I felt tight initially then when I left I was walking on the clouds. Anytime I come to the city I now know where to go for a great experience. Also, its located in union square where there are tons of shops, restaurants and muni/bart which made it super convenient.

I have played basketball for over a decade. My lower back is in constant pain and soreness especially after my games. Stretching before and after really doesn’t help my lower back from aching. Going to Simon for massages on a weekly basis has changed my life. This massage has relieved my pain from all the tension and strain. Simon’s hands are healing and target exactly where I need the most pressure. I always get the 90 minute massages to ensure time for postural adjustments and maximal relaxation. Simon has reduced my inflammation in my lower back and since I have been going to him I have been feeling great.

Frenchy Spa is in union square and very inviting. Simon gave me one of the best massages I’ve ever had. It is lovely inside and the ambience was wonderful. The private rooms are beautiful, private and very comfortable. I loved how everything was so clean and peaceful. The staff was friendly and the music was great. It was an extremely relaxing experience. Can’t wait to make another apt soon!

What would I do without Simon? I dont know… He is the best massage therapist I have ever been to. There were some that came close but he is always better than the rest. First time i went to him 7 yrs ago by finding him on google. I was pregnant with twins and i had a sciatic nerve issue. I had to find someone who knows how to work with pregnant women. I was in so much pain and could barely walk. It was an hour of hellish pain and bruising afterwards. But he said it will be more sore for few days but should be all gone in a week. I had to take tylenol for a week for pain but exactly in one week i woke up and the pain was simply gone. Since then, i followed him everywhere. Few years ago, I had a pinched nerve in my neck. 9 chiro visits didnt help at all. I went to Simon and after 2 sessions it was all back to normal. I recommend him to everyone I know and people say its like finding a real massage guru.

Simon is the best masseuse I’ve ever had. I used to compete in triathlons and marathons and I’ve had many massages. He uses many techniques: stretching, hot stones, deep tissue, cupping, and active release therapy. I highly recommend him. He definitely knows how to release tension and knots no matter where in the body.

I see Simon for massages frequently. I’ve never had someone so talented. He really understands the body and how far you can safely take pressure. It “hurts” but for the first time in my life, his massage enlivens me. I leave with more energy than I had walking in whereas other massages generally leave me fatigued. Not only that he is very nice, responsive for making appointments and a professional. Go see Simon!

Therapeutic massage is the mobilization or soft tissue with the aim of restoring their biomechanical and systemic use. Hence, it is ideal for treating musculoskeletal problems. Therapeutic massage includes; rehabilitation massage, anti-stress massage, deep tissue massage, relaxation massage, and sports massage among others.
Benefits of Therapeutic Massage
Being a combination of remedial massage and relaxation massage, therapeutic massage relaxing the entire body by alleviating tight muscle spots and muscle issues like tension and cramping. If administered by a qualified therapeutic massage therapist, it boosts blood circulation, delivery of nutrients and oxygen to muscle cells, reduces swelling and assists in excretion of waste products in the body. The blood and nutrients circulation effect of therapeutic massage is beneficial in treating inflammatory conditions like arthritis. Regular therapeutic massage therapy improves circulation, neurological and lymphatic functioning.
Additionally, the relaxation effect induced by the massage lowers blood pressure, heart rate and breathing rate to decrease stress effects in the body and boost immunity. Muscle relaxation enhances muscle and joint motion range resulting in improved physical activity. Therapeutic massage therapy is also used to treat psychological and emotional disorders because it triggers the release of endorphin; a hormone that reduces depression and uplifts moods.
Possible Side Effects of Therapeutic Massage
Though designed to offer relaxation and general body wellness, therapeutic massage may cause a few but rare side effects. They include;
Soreness: deep tissue and intense therapeutic massage may be uncomfortable and cause muscle soreness after the session. Since muscles may not be accustomed to such intense manipulation, they respond with inflammation and soreness. However, the soreness lasts for a day or less.
Fatigue and malaise: intense and deep tissue massage can reduce your energy levels since they overstimulate the neurological system to trigger stress-induced fatigue. Massage fatigue is alleviated by relaxing and taking a lot of water to keep the body hydrated.
Rare but serious complications: serious side effects of therapeutic massage are rare but possible. An extremely intense massage session can cause nerve damage or internal bleeding. Also, some clients may experience allergic reactions caused by the oils and creams used by the therapeutic massage therapist.
The ideal time to enjoy therapeutic massage therapy is when you feel fatigued, stressed or less energetic. However, in order to achieve a total state of well-being and relaxation, the massage therapy session must be conducted by a qualified Union Square therapeutic massage therapist and in a professional environment. Like other therapeutic massage sessions, the prenatal massage therapist may use aromatherapy oils or burn incense in a bid to heighten the sensory experience for the mother-to-be. However, some aromatherapy oils should not be used during pregnancy massage therapy because they can easily trigger uterine contractions. They include; sage, rosemary, peppermint, thyme, basil, and oregano. As a result, most pregnancy massage therapists prefer to use unscented or low scented oils.
During the massage, you determine how much skin you are willing to expose. Some women prefer wearing tiny clothes while others prefer to remain covered. Note that, in order to enjoy the benefits of pregnancy massage, the prenatal massage therapist must access as much skin as possible. Also, the right body positioning during prenatal massage maximizes effectiveness. Expert massage professionals recommend the side-lying position during the massage. Moreover, research recommends the use of regular massage tables as opposed to a table designed to accommodate pregnant women. The prenatal massage therapist San Francisco will offer foam cut-outs and pillows to support the belly and prevent muscle strain.

Hence, women enjoy rejuvenated energy and better moods. Massage offers an opportunity to relax by alleviating daily pregnancy discomforts like sore backs, neck aches, pelvic bones heaviness, ankle swelling, oedema and leg cramps. It alleviates sciatic nerve pain. The mother-to-be enjoys better sleep after a successful prenatal massage therapy due to less discomfort and muscle tension.
